Health & Nutrition is now playing an important role in a holistc therapists business. As a result of changes in lifestyle and the way we eat, some chronic diseases are increasingly affecting both developed and developing countries. Indeed, diet-related chronic diseases – such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, dental disease, and osteoporosis – are the most common cause of death in the world and present a great burden for society.
What you eat and your lifestyle affects your health and has an effect on your chances of developing degenerative conditions like heart disease and some cancers. Increasingly, the world’s population is waking up to the fact that diet and lifestyle are both important factors when it comes to disease prevention. However, as with smoking, for years we have been told the benefits of changing our wicked ways, but ultimately many still aren’t listening.
An unbalanced food intake that misses out, or overindulges on key nutrients can lead to anaemia, constipation, diarrhoea and high cholesterol to name just a few, as well as those previously mentioned. It’s not all bad news though. There are some foods which, when consumed regularly as part of a well balanced diet, can help prevent these chronic diseases.
Its important to work with the client and the more you understand about their eating habits the better you are to understand how treating them will be. Having a knowledge of health and nutrition will help you have more confidence in offering your client the correct treatment. After all using crystals to balance the chakras maybe all well and good but you are also in a perfect position to offer your clients some good advise.
