Details of treatment
Client came in, I greeted her with a smile, and she sat down on my office couch. I had her fill out my liability form and the treatment card before beginning the treatment. I looked over her treatment card and asked her if she had been sick lately because of her sinus issue and what medications she was currently taking and how long ago she had a tube put in her ears.
She said was not taking any medications and has had a cold for a while and her sinuses had been draining. She had tubes put in her ears 15 years ago. She had previously had this done in the past once but a few years ago but couldn’t remember the process. I explained to her the process and what she could expect. (lie down on her side, I will insert candle into ear and insert pie tin over to help catch any excess wax or debris from the burning candle and light, she may hear a crackling sound and a warm, relaxing burning feeling and that is normal, the candle will burn about 12 minutes, I would cut off the burned part every 1-2 inches until it was 3-4 inches above her ear and then I would extinguish the flame. Then perform a lymphatic massage on her face, neck, ears to help stimulate the blood circulation, deliver nutrients, oxygen and other necessities to the tissues, help to drain the fluid away and help to speed the removal of impurities and any toxins released during the therapy. I will give you a massage after each ear candling). She said she already knew how the candles worked (scientific wise) so I didn’t need to go into detail about them. I asked if she had any questions. She said no so I examined her ear for any infections or excess wax.
Using Hopi Ear Candles
I told her the treatment should take about an hour. I made sure both of our cell phones were turned off and streamed some relaxing music from Pandora and made sure my office temperature was not too hot or too cold. I asked her if the temperature in the room felt ok to her. She didn’t have any questions and I had her lie down on her side on my office couch and get comfortable and adjusted the pillows accordingly. I placed the candle gently into the auditory canal, and slid the pie tin over the candle. I held it in a vertical position, with my hands clasped/overlapping around the ear for further protection and lit the candle. I let it burn and cut off the burned part every 1-2 inches until it was 3-4 inches above her ear and then extinguished it in the cup of water I had sitting on the end table. I then carefully removed the excess wax on her outer ear with a cotton pad and made sure I didn’t push anything down her ear canal.
Massage
I asked her to gently lie on her back, facing up. I then gave a lymphatic massage using the fleshy pad my thumb and some lavender massage oil: gently drained up from between her eyes to the top of her forehead, pumped across her eyebrows from the center across to the sides, followed with pumping strokes from her nostril to the sides of her ear, massage her ears-the lobes and the behind and in front of her ears using up and down stroke, then finally stroked from the middle to the sides of her jaw, then down towards her collar bone. I repeated this sequence multiple times.
I then had her turn over and repeated the above process on her other ear along with another massage. And then let her lie there in a relaxing position for 10 minutes or so.
She was very relaxed and I used one standard beeswax ear candle in each ear. I wet the candles and cut them open and showed her what was inside of them. The ear candles pulled out a significant amount of wax. Afterwards she said her sinuses were clearer, her stress levels had gone way down, she could hear again out of her right ear and felt like she could think clearer. I put a few drops of garlic ear oil in her ears after to help with any lingering infection she may have had. She drank a glass of water after to rehydrate and I told her to continue to drink more the rest of the night. I gave her two cotton balls to put in her ears when she went out in the cold to protect her ear drums. I told her that her ears would be sensitive for the next 24 hours.
I advised her to come and see me again for another treatment the next day to help clear her sinuses and if symptoms persist can be used on a weekly / monthly basis in the long term. And it can be done once or twice a day can help to clear the congestion and blockages that arise from colds and therefore to ease the symptoms. I also told her that she does not have to wait until she has a problem before using ear candles; and that many people choose to have regular treatments as a way of maintaining their health and avoiding any future issues. She said thank you and paid me in cash, and we set up another appointment for the next three mornings before she had to go into work as I had recommended. She didn’t have time to have the treatment twice in one day so I worked with her schedule. She said she would like her husband and children to come in soon for a treatment as well and would let me know at her next appointment when would be a good time and day for them to come in.
I then filled out information about her treatment in her file after she left and recorded her next appointments on my calendar.
